DHNB 2026

DHNB conferences focus on research, education and communication in the interdisciplinary field of digital humanities in the Nordic and Baltic regions and beyond. The conference has a history of bringing together academics, researchers, students, and professionals with an interest in applying digital methods to research relevant to humanities, social sciences and arts. DHNB invites contributions from all domains of digital humanities.

Special Theme 2026

The conference and preconference activities take place from March 9-13 2026 at Aarhus University. With the special theme of DHNB2026 ‘Lost in Abundance: Encounters with the Non-Canonical’, we encourage fresh and critical approaches to uncovering overlooked literary trends, forgotten visual drifts, unconventional historical records or cultural products etc. How might digital humanities guide us through this abundant yet underexplored landscape? What insights, challenges, and questions emerge when we re-direct our attention from canonical towards underexplored, neglected, or scattered data? We invite scholars, practitioners, and societal stakeholders to engage with topics like:

  • Identification of hidden texts, images, genres, and multimedia within established or emerging archives
  • Methodological innovations for engaging with neglected or dispersed digital content
  • Critically revisiting and challenging established categories and cultural frameworks
  • Ethical reflections on exploring overlooked or fragmented sources
  • Interdisciplinary insights into underexplored and diverse cultural materials
  • Advanced and inventive use of digital methods and computational approaches

In March 2026, the Digital Humanities in the Nordic and Baltic Countries (DHNB) conference will be held in Denmark. DHNB, an associated organization of the EADH, was established to strengthen research, education, and communication in the field of Digital Humanities. The conference seeks to bring together academics, researchers, students, librarians, archivists, curators, and museum professionals who are interested in creating and using digitized and born-digital collections as research data in the humanities, social sciences, and arts.
